LUNCHTIME AWARDS

At lunchtime, our children are encouraged to always have good behavior in the canteen and in the playground. The lunchtime supervisors award certificates to children they have noticed displaying really good manners, being helpful, eating up their dinner well, for example. Two names from each class group are then chosen to receive a special prize each half term. The winners are :-

P1 and P2

Minnie P1 - I used lovely manners today

Luke P2 - well done for staying in your seat in the dinner hall

P3

Jacob - well done for staying in your seat in the dinner hall

Evie - I used lovely manners today.

Safeguarding Video

As we enter the Christmas season and you prepare for the school holidays , we are mindful that for some children and young people in NI, it may not be such a happy time.

This year – politicians across parties have come together to produce an awareness raising video (with signposting to helplines) that we have been encouraged to share.

CHRISTMAS DINNER

Today was the start of our Christmas activities in school. We all had a delicious Christmas dinner in our class bubbles and the children also enjoyed having colouring sheets to do while they waited. Thanks to Louise and all the lunchtime supervisors for their hard work, not only today but also every day throughout the year.

RAF GLIDER CHALLENGE P6 AND P7

P6 and P7 had a very exciting technology challenge day yesterday. They were taking part in the Royal Air Force Glider Challenge. In groups they had to design and build three prototype gliders using the materials that had been provided. After designing and creating the gliders they then tested them for speed and distance.

There were some super design and great excitement as the gliders were tested. After many calculations the final results were in

  • Grace and Annie - fastest glider 12.55 metres per second

  • Tom and Ewan - furthest travelled 12.06 metres.

Well done everyone and a huge thanks to the RAF for this great Technology Challenge

ODD SOCK DAY

On Monday 16th November at the start of Anti Bullying week, our children all wore ‘odd socks’ to school

What is Odd Socks day?

‘Odd Socks Day is designed to be fun! It’s an opportunity to encourage people to express themselves and celebrate their individuality and what makes us all unique!’ - Anti Bullying Alliance.

As part of Anti Bullying Week, our children had various activities which looked at the subject of bullying and what they need to do if they find themselves being bullied by anyone.

P1 AND P2 BULB PLANTING

P1 and P2 had great fun planting Spring bulbs. They planted daffodil, tulip and crocus bulbs in the raised beds. They also enjoyed looking at the beautiful autumn leaves.

NEW WORLD GLOBES

We received a donation of £100 from proceeds of the Co Antrim Fleadh which was held in Rasharkin last year. This enabled us to purchase a world globe for each of our classrooms.

THE CROCUS PROJECT

The Crocus Project is a project that helps children to remember and learn about the Holocaust. The Holocaust Education Trust Ireland (HETI) provides yellow crocus bulbs to plant in autumn, in memory of one and a half million Jewish children who perished in the Holocaust and thousands of other children who were victims of Nazi atrocities. Our P6 and P7 children are taking part in the project. They planted the crocus bulbs in the shape of the Star of David which Jewish people were forced to wear under Nazi rule. When the yellow crocuses bloom in January and February they will remind the children of the Holocaust. International Holocaust Memorial Day is 27th January.
